China

China is the worlds largest country measured by the number of inhabitants. Its population counts roughly 1.300 million people as of 2005. China also has one of the worlds biggest and fastest growing economies (G20-member). Its GDP is still lagging behind the world average though, which gives the Chinese population a relatively low average purchasing power.

Welfare is also not evenly distributed throughout the Chinese population, and the wealthy part of the population, with a purchasing power at western levels, is largely found in the big cities in the east of China. The western part of China still lags behind in development partly due to bad infrastructure.

Innovation Norway has 15 employees in its offices in the Chinese cities Beijing and Shanghai. 10 of these work out of the office in the country’s capital, Beijing. This is the country’s political centre, while the largest economic centers are found in the big cities and provinces along the East coast, for instance in Shanghai Hong Kong and Taiwan (autonomous province).
Innovation is located at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Beijing and at the Royal Norwegian Consulate in Shanghai.
